What
is "Life in Discovery?"
Life in Discovery, quite simply, embodies the mission of the University.
It is the essence of who we are as an institution and it drives
all that we do. It exemplifies the characteristics that set us apart,
and defines the values we hold dear.
Through four distinct pillars -- Education, Clinical
Practice, Research and Community Service -- our mission
is brought to life. The pillars support our ability as a University
to achieve a Life in Discovery.
Imagine
a center of learning that is as innovative as the future demands,
where interdisciplinary healthcare teams learn, teach, and practice
together for the benefit of the whole patient. Where researchers
work to uncover the very secrets of life through genomic and proteomic
information that enables predictive and preventive medicine.
Where inner strength, in concert with clinical care skills, makes
a true difference in the health and well-being of those we serve.
Where we give back to the community, nurturing those around us for
the good of all.
Rosalind Franklin embodied Life in Discovery. She recognized that
the highest goals are about the improvement of humankind. Our vision
for this University is that, together with our partners, we will
be recognized as an established academic health sciences center
serving a diverse nation with excellence. We consistently innovate
in the education of health and biomedical professionals and in knowledge
creation and scientific discovery.
We extend our mission beyond the classrooms and the laboratories,
to places where we can improve mankind through outstanding clinical
programs and community service -- to places where we can make a
difference.
With her work, Rosalind Franklin changed our world. Now
it's our turn.
